Niverville Fire Department, Inc.
P.O. Box 422
Niverville, New York 12130
July 4, 2008
Dear Neighbor,
The
Niverville Fire Department is conducting its Annual Fund Drive. The Annual Fund Drive which began back in the 1940’s
enables us to purchase and upgrade our apparatus and equipment to meet the growing needs of our district.
2007
was a very busy year for the Niverville Fire Department. We acquired 5 new members who are currently enrolled in Firefighter
1 and are training for interior fire attack. We responded to 182 fire alarms
and 274 EMS calls, for a total of 456 alarms. In addition 45-8, (our EMS First Response Vehicle) was manned 4,986 hours. Average
EMS response time was 1.33 minutes and on-scene time was just over 4 minutes. These times are incredible considering the size
of our district. The training, fire and EMS calls our members attended exceeded
the requirements of our department, we are very fortunate to have such dedication. We also took delivery of a new 2007 KME
Urban Interface. This 4WD brush truck will be located at Station 2 and will also assist our primary engines with water supply.
Res-Q-Jacks were also purchased and will be assigned to our Heavy Rescue at Station 1. They provide structural support for
building collapse and vehicle stabilization during extrication.
We are currently looking to
replace our SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) as they are quickly approaching the end of their lifespan. The replacement
packs will cost approximately $90,000 and are an irreplaceable component of our fire services, allowing us to enter buildings
with heavy smoke and fire or emergencies that don’t have adequate oxygen. It is also our goal this year to purchase
5 additional sets of turnout gear to provide burn protection for firefighters.
As a reminder, if you don’t
have your 911 number on your house or at the end of your driveway, please have it installed. The time it saves can mean the
difference between life and death. Also, if you have children and would like "Child Find" stickers to apply to their bedroom
windows, please call the fire house at 518-784-3300. We can also answer any questions you have about posting your 911 number.
Remember to change your batteries regularly in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and clean your chimneys before the
winter season.
As our fire district continues
to grow and alarms increase, we are always in need of new members for Fire, EMS and Ladies Auxiliary. If you are at least
sixteen and would like to become a Volunteer Firefighter, First Responder or Ladies Auxiliary member please visit our website
at www.nivervillefd.org or contact us for an application.
In closing, we would like to
thank you for your continued support and would greatly appreciate any donation you can make. Donations can be mailed to the
address listed at the top of this letter. As your neighbors, we are proud to volunteer our time to protect your life and property.
Please help us help you!
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Judson
